No, I’m not talking about this “Decision” , I”m talking about the one to re-sign here in Korea. I don’t particularly want to go back to Canada at this point in time. Something about heading back to Northern Ontario in Canada in the middle of February just sort of throws me off. My family and friends do have me wanting to come back, but don’t worry, I will be there eventually.
Life in Korea has treated me pretty well. While there is the usual stuff that goes on (not being able to speak the language, people staring at you for no reason, having a giant moustache…), I’ve adjusted to it pretty easily. I don’t really know if I’ve been hit by culture shock or not. There’s never been a time where things have really sucked and all I want to do is go home. If that does happen, I’m probably going to say “Screw you guys, I’m going home”. My friend Ryan stayed here for 14 months, hit a point where he didn’t want to be here anymore, and left. He didn’t stick it out when life sucked, he was unhappy and changed it so it would be good for him. I envy that. If everyday isn’t making me happy, it’s time for me to change my everyday.
Here in Samcheok, we have a great group of foreigners – a really solid group. The bottom line is that they are the reason I’ve decided to stick around here. While it may be slightly male-dominated, that’s just fine with me – girls tend to screw things up anyway.
A lost of people ask about the ex-girlfriend who moved here. She has come and gone – okay, Leanne is still in Korea, but she arrived, came and spent Chuseok here, I told her I didn’t want to get back together – and that’s that. She’s still in Busan but hasn’t talked to me since – I guess she didn’t take it all too well.
I’ve decided to stay at the same school as well. I have a pretty awesome deal here, like I’ve mentioned earlier. Yes, I would like to teach boys, but I’m fine with staying at the girls high school. I really like my students and I think they like me as well. Either I’ve gotten better at speaking to them, or their English has gotten better so they understand me now.
I’m excited to stay and keep doin’ what I’m doing. I also have 5 weeks off in January/February. I’ve already booked my flight down South to the Phillipines, and I plan on checking off a few other countries around there.
