With the group in Busan this past weekend, we went to check out a Korean professional baseball game. Let me tell you: This was quite the experience.
We had pretty awesome seats, right in the “Exciting Zone” just behind 3rd base, right on the ground level.
It turned out to be a great game. The Lotte Giants (Busan’s team) were down 4-1 going into the 9th, and they ended up rallying to force extra innings, which they ended up winning in the bottom of the 10th.
It was also the first baseball game for a bunch of my friends (Europeans and South Africans) so it was a great game for them to see. I also spent a fair amount of time explaining the rules to them.
The craziest thing about this game? Booze and food. Back home at a Blue Jays game you’re looking at $9 for a beer and $7 for a hot d0g, which is ridiculous. At this game? You could bring in your own drink and food. Whatever you wanted. No rules. Bottle of wine? Sure. Cooler full of beer? Not a problem. There was even a 7-11 in the stadium without a single inflated price.
We got drunk. The rest of the crowd got drunk. The crowd was also crazy. I’ve never seen a baseball game so lively, with the Koreans chanting for every home player that went up to bat. THEY EVEN HAD CHEERLEADERS. And not just any cheerleaders, but hot Korean girls wearing skimpy outfits. They had a bat girl that wore extremely short white shorts that didn’t leave much to the imagination. What a great game, I really like what Korea has done with it.
