Click this link: “Elite South Korean University Rattled by Suicides”
This article really bears light on the reality of education here in South Korea. As I teach at an academic high school, I am subjected to this atmosphere on a daily basis. In short, it is making me start to resent my school and the education system.
I’ve yet to see a test without tears. I rarely have a class without a student falling asleep. I just want them to be happy, but as I write this at 9:15 pm on a Monday evening, they still have at least 45 minutes left at school tonight. Some are allowed to leave at 8pm or 9pm, but that is only if they have a note saying they are going to a private school for tutoring.
Is this really what 15, 16 and 17 year olds should be doing 6 days of the week?
