CrossFit MNL and My Next Step.

My adventure continues.

I’ve been in South Korea for two years now. Without a question, it’s been an awesome experience. There are negatives, but the positives outweigh those one hundred times over.

What’s next?

A year ago, I travelled a few countries in South East Asia. Between the island of Boracay and heading over to the island of Borneo, I had 3 days to spare on my own. Being me, I looked up on CrossFit.com  any CrossFit gyms in the area. Turns out, Manila had a brand new one which would just be opening that week. Traveling and doing a couple good days of work? Perfect.

I got in touch with a young man named Miguel, and he gave me instructions and everything to get there. It was a beautiful facility with some good people. Migs treated me well, and because they were brand new, I did my best to help him and his staff out with what I knew about CrossFit. After a few days there, I left with an absolutely awesome impression of the place.

Exactly one year later while home in Canada, I received an unexpected E-mail from Migs, which read:

“Hey John,

How are you doing? This may be a long shot but I was wondering if are still working in Korea?

Any chance we’d be able to afford you to coach in our gym plus find you a teaching gig here? My coaches left me to put up a gym of their own and so now I’m scrambling for all the help i can get.

Thanks and hope all is well!

Miguel”

As it turns out, I was still in Korea. Also, as it turned out, my contract was finishing soon. This was possible.

Obviously, I was extremely skeptical at first. Could this really work? Would it be worth it? Would this actually happen?

I love CrossFit. Those who know me know that. It’s changed my life – my body, my lifestyle, my attitude towards things. It’s already opened doors and introduced to me to amazing people across the world. Now it’s taking me to a new place in the world.

The other day, the flight was booked. Contracts are to be signed (6 month long contracts…). I will be living in Quezon City, Manila, the Philippines. Teaching CrossFit.
